5 Common Myths About Lesbians Debunked

Although lesbians are much more out and open than in previous generations, there are still a lot of misconceptions. That's natural, and lesbians shouldn't be offended by them. When you are not part of something or around it much, misconceptions are bound to arise. The good news is that ignorance can be .educated.  These five myths about lesbians seem to be the most common.

Lesbian porn is an accurate portrayal of lesbian sex.

Porn is entertainment, not sex education. From porn, you would assume that strap-on sex and scissoring is just about all that lesbians do after they'e kissed a few times, but actually those are down the list of favorite lesbian sex activities. Although it certainly can get wild, lesbian sex tends to be slower, more sensual, and more intimate than it is portrayed in lesbian porn. Real lesbian sex probably would be boring to watch, especially for men, so that's why porn portrays it as they do.

It’s not real sex if there’s no penis involved.

Sex involves touching that leads to sexual arousal. That includes everything from kissing to stroking to penetration. For those who insist that penetration has to be included, lesbians can do that with dildos, which can be better than a penis since they can be of any size and are always hard. When it comes to orgasms, lesbian sex is actually more real than straight sex for women: Lesbians have more orgasms than straight women. Only about one in four women have orgasms from penis-in-vagina sex anyway, so a penis is obviously not essential to sex.

Every lesbian relationship has a butch and a femme because someone has to be the man and someone has to be the woman.

Most relationships have one partner who is somewhat more dominant. That goes for straight couples, too, and it isn't always the man who is dominant. That's true for lesbian relationships as well: one partner is probably the leader and the other more of a follower. That doesn't mean that you can spot the dominant partner by her "butch" appearance or behavior. Sometimes you can, but a lot of the time you can't. The dominant partner may appear to be as feminine as a Southern belle. Think Scarlett O'Hara - except lesbian.

Lesbians want to have a threesome with your bi-girlfriend and you because they will have sex with any woman.

Women interested in having a three-way with a straight couple are sometimes referred to as unicorns because they're relatively rare. Even if a lesbian is attracted to your bi-girlfriend, she is unlikely to agree to a threesome that includes a man. She is far more likely to try to arrange a twosome with your girlfriend by telling her, "It's not cheating if it's with another woman."

Lesbian bed death happens to all lesbian couples.

It's natural for sexual passion to subside over the course of any long-term relationship. Lesbian bed death happen to some lesbian couples, just as it happens to some straight couples, but with straight couples, it's called a sexless marriage. Lesbian couples who work at spicing up their sex lives don't need to worry too much about lesbian bed death.

this is certainly not an exhaustive list. Are there others that you think are important to debunk? Ignorance may be excusable, but knowledge is always better.
